Homework
The homework program that I run is meant only to reinforce what is being taught at school each week. It is only meant to help your child polish their skills on the topic being taught each week. I understand that we all have busy schedules and that some families have more time than others to complete homework. For this reason, all of the work that your child does for homework is counted only as a participation mark rather than being given a grade. Your child will certainly benefit from doing the work, and I can say that from years of running homework programs, there is certainly a correlation between students who regularly complete homework and academic success. That being said, if your family is having a particularly busy week, feel free to skip a week here or there.
When helping your child with his or her homework, be sure to be there to support, however, fight the urge to take over (I do realize that this is easier said than done). Try asking questions that will help your child to activate their learning. If your child does go down the wrong path, this is telling to me. It serves as a cue to me, that perhaps we need to revisit the topic. In short, have fun with homework. Challenge your child, but don't let them get too frustrated.
